Product Description

The Bambara tribe are a ethnic group native to  Mali, Guinea, Burkina Faso and Senegal.  This is the tribe responsible for these beautifully crafted Bambara Horse figures.  They are truly gorgeous and a definite conversation starter in any home or office. The face and parts of the neck on most of these are decorated with brass plates and are meticulously hand carved.

The Bambara horses are used in initiation ceremonies, where the young men have these beautiful horse "heads" mounted onto a wooden pole which they then "ride" around.  This is the lighter side of initiation ceremonies where the youth mock the proud warriors, authorities and the wealthy elders of the Bambara.  To the Bambara people these gracious creatures are held in high regard and are a sign of wealth and prestige.
